Explore Athens, relax on the island of Spetses, and fall in love with the city of Nafplio. This unique retreat combines thoughtful travel with yoga and mindfulness.
Have you always dreamed of traveling to Greece? Now is your chance to bring those images of sun-splashed islands, dramatic coastlines, and breathtaking archeological sites to life. Anne Patrick and Constance Delzant have created a balanced retreat that combines the cultural experience of Greece with daily yoga and meditation.
Our week will include a stay in Athens, a visit to the island of Spetses, and a leisurely sojourn to Nafplio, the most romantic destination in Greece. You will stay in independent accommodations and dine at local restaurants to truly experience all Greece has to offer.
We begin in Athens.
In Athens, we will stay in Plaka (the heart of old city) and enjoy its amazing atmosphere. We will be within walking distance of picturesque shops and local restaurants, most of them overlooking archeological sites such as the Parthenon. A visit to Athens wouldn’t be complete without a dive into its ancient history, so we have included guided visits to the Parthenon and the Acropolis Museum.
Next is Spetses – our island destination.
Spetses is located south and west of Athens and it takes about 2 hours by ferry to reach its coast. One of the most pleasant aspects of Spetses (besides the beautiful architecture and beaches) is the absence of private cars within the town limits. Modes of transportation include walking, horse-drawn carriages, bicycles, mopeds, and motorcycles. Only taxis and delivery vehicles are allowed in the downtown area. Spetses is the perfect location to relax, recharge and enjoy some beach-side yoga.
Finally, fall in love with Nafplio.
After Spetses we will be headed to Nafplio, rightfully named the most romantic city in Greece. The town was the first capital of Greece after it became independent from the Ottoman Empire (between 1821 and 1834), and has kept intact its stunning neo-classical architecture. Nafplio will be our base of operations from which we will embark on day trips to two impressive archeological sites: Mycenae and Epidaurus.
Mycenae was a major center of Greek civilization in the second millennium BC and if you are of a fan of Homer’s Iliad, you will be familiar with Mycenae’s most famous king: Agamemnon. King Agamemnon was Helen’s brother-in-law (she was married to Agamemnon’s brother Menelaus, king of Sparta, when she fell in love with Paris of Troy) and led the Greek armies to Troy to get her back.
Our tour guide will walk you through the site and lavish you with mythological highlights.
Epidaurus is known for its theater, built in the 4th century BC. It is still in use today and can sit 14,000 people. The acoustics are exceptional: even when sitting all the way up on the last row, one can hear a pin being dropped on the center of the stage without any amplification!
This retreat centers around connecting to the local Greek culture, history, cuisine, all through a mindful lens. Our intention is for you to leave Greece with a true appreciation for the land and people. We have thoughtfully programmed this retreat to offer you some of Greece’s cultural highlights, yet give you space to explore, or give yourself downtime to just soak it all in. We will encourage you to be open to be developing a deeper connection with yourself and others as well through mindfulness and yoga woven throughout the trip.
Yoga & Mindfulness
Each day will include optional meditation and a yoga flow. On some days, we will offer a second yin/gentle slow flow class to help us restore. The mindfulness doesn't stop in the yoga studio, we will be bringing our practice to nature. We will practice yoga overlooking the parthenon and by the sea…
Our yoga style
Anne's classes are welcoming and warm.
